Day Of Your Procedure

Do not have anything to eat or drink within 2-4 hours of your procedure. If you have extenuating circumstances that make this difficult please contact our office to discuss the matter.

Bring a responsible person / attendant that can drive you home following your procedure, whether you are receiving sedation or not. If you choose not to bring a driver, it may limit the treatment options that Dr. Waqas can offer you at your appointment.

After Your Procedure

If you received sedation, do not drive for the remainder of the day. Avoid soaking in a hot tub, pool, or bath for at least two days following your procedure. You may remove any bandages or dressings four hours following your procedure. You may shower at this point. Please remove all bandages before showering.

Tips For Pain Relief At Home

Ice

Ice reduces pain and swelling. Wrap an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas in a dishcloth (Never place ice directly on your skin). Place the ice where you hurt most. Don’t ice for more than 20 minutes at a time. You should use ice several times a day.

Medications

Over-the-counter pain relievers include Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. They can help ease discomfort. Some also reduce swelling. Tell your doctor about any medications you are already taking. Take medications only as directed.

Heat

We recommend the routine use of heat after a day of your intervention.

Activity

Stay active. Physical activity keeps your muscles strong and your joints mobile. Do what you can, even if it isn’t much. Simply taking a walk once or twice a day can improve your pain dramatically. Doing core strengthening exercises daily helps strengthen your core muscles which help provide support for your spine.
